The 401(k) roadside is littered with hundreds of vendors who claim to be selling the "best" product and array of services. Fees typically include charges for set up and annual administration, asset-based charges such as investment advisory fees, distribution expenses and mortality and expense risk charges, and sales charges (either front-end or back-end loads). Investment alternatives usually include mutual funds and insurance company separate accounts.

We know which vendors deliver superior customer and participant-related support services, and which don't. Most importantly, we know what works and what makes a company's 401(k) program successful, and what doesn't.
